Intracin PREDNICIN (prednisolone or prednisone) is a synthetic corticosteroid (glucocorticoid) used in veterinary medicine for its potent anti-inflammatory and immunosuppressive properties.

INDICATIONS

• Allergic Reactions and Dermatological Conditions: Management of itchy skin, atopic dermatitis, flea allergies, contact allergies, hot spots, and hives.
• Inflammatory Diseases: Treatment of chronic conditions such as Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD), asthma, and bronchitis.
• Autoimmune Disorders: Used to manage immune-mediated hemolytic anemia (IMHA), lupus, and immune-mediated thrombocytopenia.
• Musculoskeletal Inflammation: Management of arthritis, bursitis, and other joint inflammation.
• Oncology (Cancer Treatment): Part of chemotherapy protocols for lymphoma and mast cell tumors.
• Neurological Conditions: Reducing swelling and pressure in the brain or spinal cord.
• Addison’s Disease (Hypoadrenocorticism): Used as replacement therapy when pets cannot produce enough steroids naturally.

ADMINISTRATION

• Route: Intramuscular (I.M.) injection.
• Interval: The dose can be repeated every 12 to 48 hours depending on the condition and severity.
• Transition: If a long-term corticosteroid effect is needed, the treatment is typically transitioned to oral prednisolone tablets.
• Withholding Periods: Milk from treated cattle must be discarded for 3 days, and meat should not enter the food supply for 5 days.
