Intracin MARBACIN 10% (100 mg/ml marbofloxacin) is a synthetic, broad-spectrum fluoroquinolone antibiotic injectable solution used for treating bacterial infections in cattle and pigs.
INDICATIONS
Cattle:
- Respiratory Infections: Treatment of respiratory infections caused by sensitive strains of Pasteurella multocida, Mannheimia haemolytica, Histophilus somni, and Mycoplasma bovis.
- Acute Mastitis: Treatment of acute mastitis induced by Escherichia coli strains susceptible to marbofloxacin during lactation.
Pigs (Sows):
- Metritis Mastitis Agalactia (MMA) Syndrome: Also known as postpartum dysgalactia syndrome (PDS), caused by marbofloxacin-sensitive bacterial strains.
ADMINISTRATION
- Administration: Typically given by intramuscular (IM), subcutaneous (SC), or slow intravenous (IV) injection, with recommended dosages often at \(2 \text{ mg/kg}\) (daily) or \(8 \text{ mg/kg}\) (single dose) depending on the condition.
- Mechanism: It works by inhibiting DNA gyrase, causing bactericidal activity.
- Contraindications: Do not use in cases of known hypersensitivity to fluoroquinolones or if the bacteria is resistant to other quinolones.
- Withdrawal Periods: Specific withdrawal times for meat and milk vary by local regulations and must be followed.
