KEMIN’s MEVAC PPR is a Live-attenuated Peste des Petits Ruminants vaccine indicated for control of the highly contagious and fatal PPR virus in sheep and goats.
INDICATIONS
- Target Species: Primarily indicated for sheep and goats.
- Prophylaxis in Endemic Areas: Used for routine mass vaccination in regions where the disease is currently circulating (Asia, Africa, and parts of the Middle East) to prevent outbreaks and maintain herd immunity.
- Eradication Programs: Employed as a critical tool in global efforts led by the World Organisation for Animal Health (WOAH) and Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) to eradicate the disease by 2030.
- Emergency Outbreak Control: Indicated for “ring vaccination” or targeted vaccination in high-risk populations to contain new disease clusters.
ADMINISTRATION
The vaccine is typically a freeze-dried product that must be reconstituted with a chilled diluent immediately before use.
- Route: The standard method of administration is a subcutaneous injection, usually in the side of the neck.
- Dosage: A single dose, typically 1 mL of the reconstituted vaccine, is given per animal.
- Needles: To prevent disease spread, a separate sterile needle and syringe should be used for each animal.
- Marking: Animals are often marked after vaccination to confirm the procedure and avoid re-vaccination.
